Are you one of those gymrats that spends a ton of money on workout clothes for the gym? I'm not. I just can't justify wasting money on clothes I'm just going to wear to be sweaty and smelly. Give me a cut off t shirt and pair of gym shorts and I'm good to go. When it comes to hand protection however I have a different opinion. I want gym gloves with grip that are going to work, without being dorky or ostentatious. I shop / buy online a lot and I have some tips about what to look for when you're looking for some new workout or crossfit hand protection.
Gym Gloves With Grip
Look for gloves that are constructed from materials you've actually heard of before. Real leather will outlast and out perform any other material when it comes to weight lifting gloves or grips. Faux leather and micro fiber will get smelly and not be very durable. Spongy rubber grip pads and power pads or hand pads are sold in bulk because they don't last. They tear apart.
Think about what you're going to use them for. Some hand pads for gym, like the crappy rubber ones will "stick" to the bar or weight. That's their selling point as gym gloves with grip. What these knock off manufactuers don't tell you, is that your hands are supposed to naturally rotate around the bar. Whether it's Crossfit pull ups, deadlifts or bicep curls. You don't want to stick to anything.
Remember, you're looking for gym gloves with grip because you want to get a better grip on the weight your lifting, pull up bar, or whatever. You may need to strengthen your grip... meaning the muscles and strength of the hands and forearm. Check out this article for that (opens in new window) 4 Things You Can Do To Strengthen Your Grip
