Swolemate or #swolemate is a slang word used to describe someone with whom you workout or a gym partner. It could be a friend, acquaintance, or significant other. It comes from another slang word "swole," which refers to the natural physical pump you get from exercising a specific muscle group. In response to the forces being exerted upon it, the body fuels the working muscle with oxygen rich blood and nutrients. This among other biological processes results in a temporary swelling of the muscle tissue.
It's Never Too Late To Find Your Swolemate
Countless studies have been done over the years in the exercise and fitness industry on whether or not working out or weightlifting with a companion enhances the intensity of the exercise. The answer is yes! Take a group exercise class for example, if you were jumping around or on a spin bike solo, in that room alone, do you think you'd push yourself more than if you had a group of people around you? No. The same goes for weightlifting or training. You're far more likely to exert yourself a little bit more by having a swolemate with you. It's not only about the encouragement to push out one last rep, but it also has to do with the accountability factor outside the gym as well. It's never too late to find your swolemate and get #swoleandflexy !
